Syntactic approach to agreement (with a special view to agreement of predicate with subject)

This thesis deals with syntactic relation of subject-predicate agreement in Czech, concentrating on special cases. The theoretical part describes the term "agreement" in terms of the traditional dependency approach, presents the definition of the term and specifies its width. It describes the subject-predicate agreement from from other theoretical perspectives, too (for example generative grammar analysis etc.). The main part of this theoretical chapter contains particular cases of subject-predicate agreement, as described in Czech grammars and textbooks. However, this description does not take into account all options and variants of agreement used in everyday conversation. Therefore, we investigate the problem of agreement through an empirical survey, which serves us to identify more complex cases (multiple subject with disjunctive, adversative and compared relation between its constituents; based on the cases found in the Czech National Corpus). Another source of data comes from a questionnaire, which maps how complex agreement structures are acquired by users of the language (students of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University). Apposition in the headlines of the Czech and English online media

The diploma thesis focuses on apposition and its syntactic and semantic characteristics in the headlines of Czech and English online media. In the theoretical part, the format of a headline is introduced as a part of written journalistic texts as well as significant Czech and English concepts about appositions are presented. The selected approaches are then united into a classification which is later used for the purposes of the linguistic analysis in the practical part. The aforementioned analysis deals with syntactic and semantic aspects of appositional units, classifies the language data and describes them in detail. The final chapter of the thesis contain the conclusion and offer the results of the linguistic analysis. Apposition in the contemporary French: description, position, function, frequency. Comparison with Czech.

The first aim of this work is to describe the way in which the term apposition is defined in French and Czech linguistics. The second aim is to examine the use of one type of French apposition in journalistic and legal texts and to find out which equivalents are used in the Czech language for these expressions. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part includes a description of different approaches of apposition in the French and Czech language. The practical part begins with a choice of one definition of apposition which will be further used in the corpus analysis. The corpus analysis is conducted by using the corpus InterCorp and its subject is to examine the function and frequency of French apposition in journalistic and legal texts and furthermore to analyse its Czech equivalents.

Apposition in Spanish journalistic texts

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the occurrence and frequency of the apposition in Spanish journalistic texts via statistical analysis. The thesis is divided into two principal parts ? the theoretical and the practical. The theoretical part deals initially with the apposition, its types and specifics and afterwards with the journalistic style and its characteristic expressive means. The practical part is focused on the research conducted on the basis of the elected sample of articles of the Spanish daily newspaper El País. The final part of the thesis is made by a summary in Spanish.
